Teen Hairstyles and Celebrity Influence
Teens want to look elegant and glamorous one minute, wild and crazy the next, and appealing to members of the opposite sex as they walk through the hallways of their middle school and high school the next minute. Teens, both boys and girls, use their hair to make a statement about who they are, and how they want others to think of them. Teen hairstyles change as frequently as their clothing style. Among this age group, teens try to make their own individual style statement about who they are. Both, other teens and adults draw conclusions about teenagers often based upon their hairstyle.
Teens are highly influenced by trends particularly as depicted by the entertainment industry. Teens idolize celebrities and will go to any length to copy the celebrity whom they admire. Teens will go out of their way to be like the teen celebrities they watch on television or in the movies. They will purchase magazines and look for articles that help them learn how to look like their favorite celebrity. In today’s electronic world, teens have access to the Internet for the latest hairstyles of their idols.
Many teen girls enjoy having long hairstyles. Long hair is often associated with youth, and so it is not unusual for teens to favor this length. Teens can have long, straight hair or long hair with soft curls on prom night. Teens can have curly, long hair or, if they enjoy sports, you will often see a teen with a ponytail and wispy bangs. Teens can have long wavy hair with bangs swept to the side. Some teens might opt for medium length hair that is layered with highlights.
Teens are highly influenced by the teen celebrities they admire. In recent years, Hillary Duff and Lindsay Lohan are two teen stars that teenage girls admire and want to copy. Hillary Duff and Lindsay Lohan both use layering as a styling technique. Lindsay Lohan adds waves to her long hair for an added glamorous dimension.
Teens are willing to experiment. They want to fit in with their peers, but differentiate themselves from adults. Their hairstyle is a way to express their inner mood, whether that mood is soft and gentle, or wild and crazy. Their hairstyle can express to the outside world how they are feeling. They have the time to experiment and to use the latest hair products, gels, curling irons, and hair accessories. They are teenagers and believe they have all the time in the world.
